Your typing speed decides whether you survive!

Use your typing skills to escape a city overrun by zombies.

Hold back the zombie horde while your partner tries to get the car running. Kill zombies, move, reload, and switch weapons by typing words.

Grow stronger. Don't join the walking dead.

Earn money each run. Unlock new weapons and skills in the upgrade tree, then return better equipped to face the horde.

You won't make it through the night!

At night, visibility drops. Outside lit areas, some letters in the words above zombies are hidden. Keep typing, even when you can't see the whole word.

Controls

  • Shoot, move, reload, and switch weapons: type the corresponding words.
  • Words are in English. Use an English keyboard layout.
  • Pause: Esc.

About the prototype

This is a free prototype to see how fun it is to survive by typing. More missions with additional interactions and more open level layouts are still in the planning stage.

How did your run go?

Tell us in the comments: did you escape the city, what was your top typing speed, and how badly did the runners ruin your day?

If you find a bug, let us know in the comments too!

My keyboard probably won't thank the developer, but I certainly will! It’s a cool concept—I’d love to see leaderboards to see who has the fastest fingers. No one else in this genre has done visuals and narrative-driven cutscenes like this; hats off to the creator!

Hell yeah, leaderboards and an endless mode would be awesome! Thanks!

Quite an original idea to help improve typing speed for people I like it. There's a very minor issue that I think you can fix pretty easily. A zombie at the top of the screen does crop the word out of the screen on the way in.

Outside of that though. The game feel is solid and the game did feel intuitive to pick up straight away.

Hey! Thanks so much for the feedback, I really appreciate it!

There's still a lot more I want to do with the idea. The core is there, but so far I've only scratched the surface of creating situations where players need to make decisions as well as type words. For example, I'd love to add ranged enemies you'd have to pick off with a rifle, plus grenades that distract the horde, like in L4D.

I've also got ideas for new levels, like a highway where you have to escape the horde while clearing barricades blocking your way.

The clipping issue showed up after I moved a streetlight and accidentally blocked part of the zombies' path. Thanks again for spotting it!

No problem. I do think you got something special with this. Good luck!!!

Would it be possible for you to test my prototype? No problem if not.
